This is a continuation of last week’s post Why It’s Time To Radically Change Your Life.
Just like how to trees take time to grow and flourish, transforming your life is a gradual process. It can be frustrating because we want to see transformation happen right away. However, if you persist and work on yourself consistently, you will see a change in your life.
No matter where you are in life, be empowered to know that you can make a decision to transform your life. It may take a little discipline, hard work and time to achieve the transformation you’d like to see but it is possible. You can do it!
Here are 5 ways to transform your life
Prioritizing what matters
Take a look at your schedule. Does it look like your schedule reflects what matters to you? Or do you have a bunch of “events” to do that aren’t a high priority on your list? Don’t waste your time doing things that don’t make you happy. Adjust your schedule to reflect what brings you joy.
This is an area that I’m still working on. As someone who is continually growing and improving, my priority list shifts and changes on a regular basis. There are certain things that are pretty consistent on my list like having alone time and learning. There are months that I’m completely satisfied with what I spend my time on, and there are days that completely flop and falls to the wayside. But that’s okay. This is a learning and growing process. What’s important is there is a process, but sometimes it doesn’t work out.
Be kind to others
I added this to the list because not only will being kind transforms you, but it will transform the lives of others. Kindness is one of the best qualities in a human being, in my opinion. It is very heart melting when you see someone doing something unexpected like a stranger deciding to help push someone’s broken down car to the nearest alley or sharing food with a homeless person. Being kind to others doesn’t require a lot of work or money, just a good heart and time out of your busy day. The look from the person on the receiving end is priceless. Being kind to others not only will change others’ lives but yours as well.
Here is a great story of being kind to others:
My neighbor, Jim, had trouble deciding if he wanted to retire from the construction
field, until he ran into a younger man he’d worked with previously. The young man had a wife and three children and was finding it difficult to make ends meet, since he hadn’t worked in some time. The next morning, Jim went to the union office and submitted his retirement paperwork. As for his replacement, he gave them the name of the young man. That was six years ago, and that young husband and father hasbeen employed ever since.
I believe that every single person has a dream in their heart. Some are taking action to fulfill their dreams, while others are stuck fulfilling other people’s dreams. Which boat are you in? If you’re taking action to achieving your dreams, good for you!
If you’re not, that’s okay. Start today. Begin by listing what you would change then dream about where you see yourself in 5 years. Once you do that, figure out the steps you can do today. Create goals for yourself to keep you moving closer to your dreams. You’re meant to live out your dreams, not keep them in your head.
Facing your fears
Everyone has fears. You’ve got them and even Beyoncé has them! Usually what we think is scary is magnified in our brain and limits you from doing certain things. Don’t let your fears control your life. Try to expose yourself to your fear and you’ll find that it wasn’t as scary as what you had in mind. Not only does facing your fears grow and transform you as a person, it also boosts your confidence.
Like most people, I detest public speaking. Not only that, I have social anxiety. The combination of two
Most of us would rather be other people. I know I was one of them and yes, there are times when I wish I could be other people. But guess what? There is no one else like you. Did you know that aside from having unique fingerprints there are 8 other qualities that you have something that’s unique? According to Reader’s Digest, your iris, retina, ear, lip print, tongue, voice, toe print, gait and teeth are one-of-a-kind. You know what else is? The wrinkles of your brain! Love yourself, because there’s no one else like you. You have a special quality that only you have in this world. No two objects can physically be in the same place – mathematically you have to be 100% unique. When you’re able to love yourself fully, you’re able to love other people out of the overflow of your heart. This year, make it your mission to radically love yourself.
- If you don’t see change within yourself immediately, be patient with yourself. It takes discipline, time, and hard work, but it’s all worth it.
